Game Day

On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration Church in Florence, SC talks to us about “Game Day.” With the beginning of Great Lent, our pre-Lenten preparations are behind us. We have made our plan of action and now we begin the race to Holy Week and Pascha. The Church offers us a few finals words of encouragement and guidance as we take the field for game day. With spiritual events of the prayer, fasting and alms giving in the Eucharist we will endure the race and be crowned victorious by our Lord but it all begins with forgiveness.

Expectations and Just Rewards

On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration Church in Florence, SC talks to us about “Expectations and Just Rewards.” We all need clear expectations in order for us to learn from our mistakes. The Parable of the Last Judgment in the Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46 outlines with clarity how the Lord will judge us. Will we be sheep or goats when the time of judgment arrives? Fortunately for us, it isn’t too late for us to learn from our past mistakes. The coming Great Lent is the perfect opportunity for us to change our ways and live up to the Lord’s expectations.

Are You Talking to Me? The Publican and the Pharisee

On Theologically Thinking, when we hear stories of judgment and sin in the Scriptures, most of us don’t want to admit the Lord is speaking to us. It is easier for us to adopt the attitude of the Pharisee (Luke 18.10-14) by thanking God we aren’t like those other people. But the fact is we are sinners who depend upon the mercy of God and the sooner we understand that reality, the sooner we will go away justified by the Lord.

When We Thank God

On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, Florence S.C. shares his sermon, "When We Thank God." Each of us has been blessed by our Lord, but thinking about our gratitude just isn’t enough. The healing of the Ten Lepers described in Luke 17.12-19 reveals that it is both offerings and praise that expresses our gratitude. When we want to thank God, we should come to Church with our Tithe and stay to offer Him praise and worship.

Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church in Florence, South Carolina joins us today for his sermon entitled: Sinners Welcome Here!  In the Parable of the Great Banquet presented in Luke 14.16-24, our Lord commands us to fill His Church with everyone who desires to be present to receive His blessings. There will be many, including our family and friends, who will reject God’s invitation with limitless excuses.
