On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration Church in Florence, SC will speak on “The Feast of Annunciation; A Celebration for All Humanity.” When the Archangel Gabriel brought the Good News of the coming of God into the world, the war for our independence from death and the bondage of Hades was initiated. When the Greeks, feeling the pressure of oppression from the Ottoman Empire, found the courage to stand up to their oppressors, there was no more fitting date than March 25th, the Feast of Annunciation, to symbolize their fight for freedom. Today is our chance to declare freedom from the oppression of the devil and all his demons. Today is our chance to stand up to evil and fight for the truth of God. Today is the crown of our salvation.

On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration Church in Florence, SC talks to us about “Game Day.” With the beginning of Great Lent, our pre-Lenten preparations are behind us. We have made our plan of action and now we begin the race to Holy Week and Pascha. The Church offers us a few finals words of encouragement and guidance as we take the field for game day. With spiritual events of the prayer, fasting and alms giving in the Eucharist we will endure the race and be crowned victorious by our Lord but it all begins with forgiveness.

On Theologically Thinking, Fr. Athanasios Haros of the Transfiguration Church in Florence, SC talks to us about “Expectations and Just Rewards.” We all need clear expectations in order for us to learn from our mistakes. The Parable of the Last Judgment in the Gospel of Matthew 25:31-46 outlines with clarity how the Lord will judge us. Will we be sheep or goats when the time of judgment arrives? Fortunately for us, it isn’t too late for us to learn from our past mistakes. The coming Great Lent is the perfect opportunity for us to change our ways and live up to the Lord’s expectations.

On Theologically Thinking, when we hear stories of judgment and sin in the Scriptures, most of us don’t want to admit the Lord is speaking to us. It is easier for us to adopt the attitude of the Pharisee (Luke 18.10-14) by thanking God we aren’t like those other people. But the fact is we are sinners who depend upon the mercy of God and the sooner we understand that reality, the sooner we will go away justified by the Lord.
