WAS GOD IN THE THEATER?
New Video from OCN Tackles the Big Question
OCN has launched a new video addressing the question many have asked since a lone gunman massacred 12 people and injured over 50 at the 'Dark Knight Rises' screening in Aurora, Colorado. Where was God?
According to Father Christopher Metropulos, head of the Orthodox Christian Network (www.myocn.net), the shooting raised many questions not only about God's presence in the theater but also about today's culture that fosters violence. "Hollywood continues to peddle violence to our children with their blood and guts movies and video games", said Father Metropulos. "And then we as Americans rush to the theaters and stores by the millions and allow our children to be exposed." The new video dares to ask the question some have been afraid to ask - what were parents doing at a midnight screening of Batman with their children?"
The new video also addresses the issue of gun regulation from a Christian perspective. "Today the average person has access to weaponry that in the past was only reserved for the battle field where such weapons belong. We are even still today talking about whether we need to have the right to keep such weapons and ammunition. When are we going to wake up? Our kids are dying, and we are worrying about our rights being taken away. Our kids are being taken away, and it is time for us to stand up and take notice."
The video can be viewed here - http://youtu.be/k0sgAjfwumI.

Born in Texas and raised in Indiana, Joseph Olas, the son of the late V. Rev Fr. Oleg Joseph Olas, brings his love and knowledge of the Orthodox faith to help grow OCN. Growing up in the church allowed Joseph to cultivate many relationships across the jurisdictions of North America and overseas. Joseph is a subdeacon and graduate of St. Vladimirʼs Orthodox Theological Seminary. It has long been a dream of Joseph to see the Orthodox Church use media to help spread the Gospel message.

OCN Programs for July 30-August 3

THIS WEEK FROM THE ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN NETWORK
COME RECEIVE THE LIGHT - THE NATIONALLY SYNDICATED RADIO PROGRAM OF ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY
Fr. Chris Margaritis, Dean of the Assumption Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, joins Fr. Chris for a discussion of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. They speak candidly of the shootings, the healing, and the theology of life after death from an Orthodox Christian perspective. Everyone at OCN expresses profound sorrow to the people who lost their loved ones in this tragedy and offers prayers for those who are still recovering. We encourage all of our listeners to offer prayers as well.
The recent horrific shooting spree in an Aurora movie theater is the springboard for a much broader conversation about the changing mores of our society, the church's view of tragedy in Godʼs bigger plan, and whether we can reverse this incredibly negative trend, as we wrap-up a month-long series on violence. The power of collective and directed prayer should never be underestimated.
To read and listen to more of our thoughts on this event, please visit The Sounding (http://blog.myocn.com). The Sounding blogger/podcaster, Christy Pessemier also shares her thoughts on the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado in a special podcast entitled "Response to Colorado Shooting: Don't Give Evil the Front Row Seat." The full message will be featured as part of CRTL on myocn.net.

THE SOUNDING SOUND OFF
Together with everyone at OCN, the Sounding bloggers are thinking about and praying for the people affected by the tragic shooting in Colorado. As a way of paying our respects to the fallen, the injured, and the grieving, a group of us have shared our thoughts in this week's postings. Fr. Ernesto Obregon, Fr. Stavros Akrotirianakis, Christy Pessemier, Theron Mathis, Deme Mekras, and Kelly Lardin each wrote about the event, and you can find their posts listed together on this page: http://blog.myocn.com/tag/Batman-movie-shooting.html Read these and other thought-provoking articles at http://blog.myocn.com.

OCN PODCASTS
On Harmony of Thunder, Fr. David tells the story of two Christians who have stood up in the public sphere for what they believed - one in the courts and one in the media. Would St. Basil the Great have done the same thing? Would he approve of Christians demanding respect in the public sphere? By all means! Listen to Harmony of Thunder to hear how similar our struggles today are with those of Christians in the fourth century. On Turning to the Fathers, noted scholar Fr. John McGuckin speaks on Abba Anthony (Saint Anthony the Great).
