COME RECEIVE THE LIGHT NOW IN GREEK
(Ft. Lauderdale, FL) The OCN (Orthodox Christian Network) is pleased to announce the launch of the Greek-language broadcast of "Come Receive the Light," coming to you from Athens, Greece. This new edition of our popular program is part of OCN's constant effort to speak the Gospel of Truth to all people of all languages throughout the world. Other language editions of this premier radio program, now on the air for over 16 years, will be announced shortly. Fr. Christopher Metropulos, the Executive Director of OCN, an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Bishops, stated, "We welcome to our staff a radio professional who has been actively involved in some of the most successful radio broadcasting known to the modern-day Orthodox Christian world. Dimitris Karavasilis is a believer with a passion for our faith and the sharing of it using modern-day technology."
Dimitris Karavasilis was born in Imvros. He finished his early studies in Turkish. Greek schools were closed at the time, and use of the Greek language was forbidden. He had to learn Greek from an old teacher, secretly. After immigrating to Greece, he graduated from High School and continued his studies at the University of Athens, in the School of Theology. He subsequently enrolled in the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens, where he attended Master Class seminars in Comparative Pedagogics. For twenty years, he has been a radio producer at the radio station of the Church of Piraeus, the first ecclesiastical radio station in Greece. He co-organized several conventions on the Orthodox faith, and he has published both literary and theological books, in addition to contributing articles to numerous magazines. He is currently teaching ethics at a private school in Athens.
To listen to radio broadcasts of "Come Receive the Light "Radio Program, now in the Greek Language, you can visit the high-traffic OCN website at www.myocn.net starting this weekend.

See how it changes your perspective: “Martyr Rugs and Angelic Voices” (http://blog.myocn.com/art-literature/iconography/martyr-rugs-and-angelic-voices.html). Reflecting on the Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple, Jan Bear puts her finger on one of the hardest aspects of parenting, in “The Courage of Bringing Children to the Temple” (http://blog.myocn.com/culture/entrance-theotokos.html). And as election fever passes in the United States, Theron Mathis offers some perspective to those who weren’t happy with the election results, in “How to Survive Political Disappointment” (http://blog.myocn.com/culture/how-to-survive-political-disappointment.html). OCN PODCASTS

On Special Moments in Orthodoxy, we’ll hear a CRTL episode from the OCN vault, in which Fr. Michael Kaizer discusses prayer in Orthodoxy. On Harmony of Thunder, Fr. David tells the story of two Christians who have stood up in the public sphere for what they believed - one in the courts and one in the media. Would St. Basil the Great have done the same thing? Would he approve of Christians demanding respect in the public sphere? By all means! Listen to Harmony of Thunder to hear how similar our struggles today are with those of Christians in the fourth century.
Join Roger Hunt for Daily Readings and Remembrances. Each day we will read the Holy Scriptures and the lives of the Saints. This week will feature readings from St. Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians, Corinthians and Romans; featured Saints include Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist, Gregory the Wonderworker and Bishop of Neo-Caesarea, Holy Martyr Romanus, and others. As we approach the presidential election in the United States, Fr. Frank Marangos reflects on what constitutes a real and useful debate, and what doesn't, in "Wrestling with Big Bird" (http://blog.myocn.com/current-topics/wrestling-with-big-bird.html). And for the curious and the sincerely interested, James Hargrave offers the second part of his series on how you actually become a missionary. Learn about the second major step in "How to Go, Part Two: Meeting the Mission Center" (http://blog.myocn.com/missions/how-to-go-part-two-meeting-the-mission-center.html).

The Orthodox Christian Network has been an official agency of SCOBA since 2003 and is now working within the Assembly of Bishops. Originally commissioned by SCOBA to create a national, sustainable and effective media witness for Orthodox Christianity throughout North America, OCN produces the only nationally syndicated Orthodox Christian radio broadcast, as well as several other outreach programs, including DVDs and internet-based media, in direct collaboration with sister assembly agencies (e.g., IOCC, OCMC, OCF, OCPM), as well as with various Orthodox Christian jurisdictions and pan-Orthodox, para-church organizations. Our goal is to engage the broader culture of North America with Orthodox Christianity's rich theological, spiritual, and moral heritage, and to thereby strengthen the Orthodox Church's witness and contribution to the culture in which we live.
