There's so much happening at MyOCN.net, it's hard to keep track of. Here's a summary of some of the most exciting new features intended to help you in your walk with Christ.
WEB TV SPECIAL
We hosted a very successful and interesting Web TV Christmas Special a couple of weeks ago. Special guests included Archbishop Nicolae, Frederica Mathewes-Green and Fr. Stanley Harakas. We're putting together ANOTHER similiar production for Share the Light Sunday, a national SCOBA-sponsored event scheduled for January 20, 2008.
This new Share the Light Sunday Web TV Special will take place on January 13, 2008, one week before STL Sunday itself. Mark your calendars! They'll be special guests, lots of exciting news and special tips on how YOUR parish can start sharing the light of Orthodoxy by partnering with OCN to develop your own media outreach.
Please check out our Share the Light Sunday 2008 Resource Center today for more info on STL Sunday, and feel free to call us at 877-273-2348 with any questions or comments.
OCN TV
For quite some time, we've been producing a relatively sophisticated, multi-camera production of every Sunday's Divine Liturgy at St. Demetrios Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This broadcast streams live on MyOCN.net every Sunday from 10 a.m to 12 p.m., and is archived and available for download for one week.
Many people have been asking us to do even more with Internet-based television. So, now we're looking to expand our offerings considerably.
We already have a large video archive of sermons, special liturgical events, Hierarchal services and more. Soon, we'll be making all of these available. And we're also planning to produce new Web TV programs, including one program produced by Orthodox teens for Orthodox teens.
We just need to decide how to display the material. We could set up a completely new section on the site, or we could use a special section of The OCN Blog to directly embed video content in posts. It would look like this Google Video called Day at Mt Athos:
Please let me what how YOU would like to access OCN's new TV programming.
NEW BLOGGERS
As you've probably noticed, we've also been blessed with two new bloggers, both of whom will add a lot to this area of the site.
- Fr. Peter Preble is the pastor of St. Michael Orthodox Church in Southbridge, MA, a parish in the Romanian Archdiocese. He's also the host of Shepherd of Souls, a new podcast that is co-produced by OCN. He'll be blogging about his show and other issues relating to Orthodox media outreach.
- Fr. Anthony Cook is the assistant priest at Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Clair Shores, MI. He's already written one review of The Golden Compass, and he will be writing other reviews of popular movies on this blog.
NEW CONTRIBUTORS
Finally, we've been blessed by two other priests, whose work will be featured on MyOCN.net on a weekly basis. They are:
-
Fr. John Parker, who writes a semi-regular column for the Post and Courier, a newspaper in Charleston, SC. Fr. John is Priest-in-Charge of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, a mission of the OCA. We'll be re-publishing his column here at MyOCN.net, as well as featuring other articles by him. His most recent submission, which examines how we can learn from the charitable example of St. Nicholas, is available here.
- Fr. Matthew Jackson, whose sermons will regularly appear on MyOCN.net, is the pastor of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Christian Church in McComb, MS. His sermon on the Incarnation is available here.
There will be several other Orthodox scholars and clergymen whose reflections will begin to appear regularly on MyOCN.net in the coming weeks, so check back for more updates soon. And please contact us with your comments and suggestions by writing on this blog or calling us.
