Back to School - August 2012
Dear Listeners, The time has come to send our blessed offspring back to school. It has been a wonderful summer and very busy. As a parent, I welcome the time when our children will return to school, but I also know that I will miss spending this extra time with my precious children. In the next week, they will return to the business of hectic academic, athletic, and social schedules. Violence and Death
The recent horrific shooting spree in an Aurora movie theater is the springboard for a much broader conversation about the changing mores of our society, the church's view of tragedy in Godʼs bigger plan, and whether we can reverse this incredibly negative trend, as we wrap-up a month-long series on violence. The power of collective and directed prayer should never be underestimated. To read and listen to more of our thoughts on this event, please visit The Sounding (http://blog.myocn.com). The Sounding blogger/podcaster, Christy Pessemier also shares her thoughts on the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado in a special podcast entitled “Response to Colorado Shooting: Don’t Give Evil the Front Row Seat.” The full message will be featured as part of CRTL on myocn.net. Violence - July 2012
Dear Listeners, This month on CRTL, we are going to tackle the topic of Violence. You may think that we hear too much about violence already, and we do, but not from sources that can possibly explain the causes and effects from an Orthodox Christian perspective. God created the world for salvation, not for violence, and it is essential to make this fact a part of our perspective.
We were created for a life of peace and worship of the Almighty and Loving God. Unfortunately, the pace of life today does not often allow us to stop what we are doing, savor the good things in our lives, and then go on to do what our Lord wants us to do. We become wrapped up in the business of life and forget that there is a joyful and fulfilling side to life that Christ wants us to live.
Our purpose is to live in communion with others, not isolated on our own island. But how can we do this? How can we live in peace in a world that seems so violent, so much at war with itself?
