Orphanage in Calcutta

We’re joined this week by two missionaries. First, Fr. Ernesto Obregon shares about some of the miraculous events he witnessed during his time in South America, as well as the connection he sees between missionary work and miracles. Then we’ll hear from Sister Nektaria, a Greek nun who runs an orphanage just outside Calcutta, India, about her work and personal faith. The OCMC link to make a dedicated gift to the orphanage in India is: http://www.ocmc.org/login/index.aspx?LoginType=Donation&DonationType=Project&FundId=116. Why did Christ have to die?

Why did Christ have to die? Many of us learned an answer back in our Sunday School days, but how much have we really reflected on the question since then? Tune in to hear not only an Orthodox answer to the question, but also to learn how it compares to the teachings of other Christian churches.

From Speaking in Tongues to Tearing Icons

How does our religious affiliation affect our experience of miracles? Fr. Barnabas Powell, a former Pentecostal pastor and now an Orthodox priest, has a broad and thought provoking perspective. But first, we’ll prepare ourselves for Holy Week with Fr. John Behr who will help us better understand the significance of Christ’s words from the Cross.

Miracles of Our Faith - April 2012

From the desk of Father Chris Metropulos, Executive Director of the Orthodox Christian Network

Dear Blessed people of God,

During the month of April, when the Christian world will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, or Easter as it known in the USA, the OCN will release a series of programs on miracles. Throughout the New Testament, we witness time and time again our Lord Jesus Christ performing miracles. He usually says to the person who is healed, "Your faith has made you well..go and tell no one."
So why are we talking about such a topic? Well, my dear friends, it is because the word "miracle" for us has become the word and reality of "magic" to others. What is one person's prayer for a miracle can be another person's prayer for good luck. And what happens when we pray for a miracle and it happens? We then say, "What a great God! We believe in Him." But when we pray and that miracle does not occur, are we putting our faith in a false God? Do we think, "God must not love me since He didn't do what I asked Him to do"?

Theology of Miracles

We begin our month-long look at miracles by asking Fr. Demetrios Tonias some general questions about miracles. Why does God perform miracles? Why do miracles sometimes happen to people who don’t believe? How should miracles impact our faith?

What does it mean to be a Christian? Part 4

We finish up our monthly theme by hearing a Southern Baptist opinion of what it means to be a Christian. Join Fr. We’ll also reflect on the Annunciation of the Theotokos, which we celebrate this Sunday, with Fr. Costin Popescu.

What does it mean to be a Christian? Part 3

We continue our month-long look at what it means to be a Christian with the Professor of Church History at the Assemblies of God Seminary. You will be surprised to hear the answers of our guests as they discuss with Fr. Chris what they believe about being a Christian, the Eucharist and the social hot buttons of the day. It is equally interesting to hear how much respect they have for the Orthodox Christian faith. But first, we’ll reflect on the Sunday of the Holy Cross, which we celebrate this weekend.

What Does It Mean to Be a Christian - March 2012

From the desk of Father Chris Metropulos, Executive Director of the Orthodox Christian Network

Dear Blessed people of God,

I am now in the 16th year of hosting CRTL, and I must confess to you that I have loved every minute of it.  No plans to quit this journey now.  If anything, we have been planning for years to expand it to a weekly live call-in program at some point in the future. Our dedicated staff work hard each day to bring you the best of the best stories of Orthodox Christianity around the world.  It has been and continues to be for me a great way to reach not only to my own parishioners 24/7 with the teachings of our faith, but now to an ever-growing family worldwide.  The Church has to reach out using the latest tools at our disposal to share the sacred faith.  To me, to not do so would be a sin.

What does it mean to be a Christian?

We launch into our March monthly theme of what it means to be a Christian with Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. Heʼll be grounding us in our Orthodox beliefs before we hear from leaders of other Christian denominations in the weeks to come. But first, The Prayer Book of the Early Christians by Fr. John McGuckin has just been published! We'll share some quick thoughts from Fr. John on improving your daily prayer life. Get your own copy of Fr. John’s new book, The Prayer Book of the Early Christians.
