Come Receive the Light
From the desk of Father Chris Metropulos, Executive Director of the Orthodox Christian Network
Dear Blessed people of God,
I am now in the 16th year of hosting CRTL, and I must confess to you that I have loved every minute of it. No plans to quit this journey now. If anything, we have been planning for years to expand it to a weekly live call-in program at some point in the future. Our dedicated staff work hard each day to bring you the best of the best stories of Orthodox Christianity around the world. It has been and continues to be for me a great way to reach not only to my own parishioners 24/7 with the teachings of our faith, but now to an ever-growing family worldwide. The Church has to reach out using the latest tools at our disposal to share the sacred faith. To me, to not do so would be a sin.

We launch into our March monthly theme of what it means to be a Christian with Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. Heʼll be grounding us in our Orthodox beliefs before we hear from leaders of other Christian denominations in the weeks to come. But first, The Prayer Book of the Early Christians by Fr. John McGuckin has just been published! We'll share some quick thoughts from Fr. John on improving your daily prayer life. Get your own copy of Fr. John’s new book, The Prayer Book of the Early Christians.

In our final show on the topic of Faith & Politics, we’ll discuss the intersection of personal faith and public policies. How do we hold fast to our Orthodox beliefs without denying the beliefs and rights of others? And, speaking of other people’s beliefs, how much do you know about the teachings of other Christian denominations? Fr. John Morris explains the importance of knowing about other churches’ teachings. Morris’ book, The Historic Church: An Orthodox View of Christian History: http://www.amazon.com/Historic-Church-Orthodox-Christian-History/dp/145673492X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327454991&sr=8-1.

Many of us have heard of Sharia Law, but how much do we know about it or about its use in US Courts? Dr. Elizabeth Prodromou explains what this controversy is all about and what it means for your religious freedoms. But before we talk about religion in the courtroom, we’ll talk about religion in the home with Prof. David Hunter. He’ll share some early Christian writings about how a household should be run and look at how that same advice can be applied in our homes today. Check out Amazon for David’s book, The Oxford Handbook of Early Christian Studies.

Dear Blessed people of God,
We are now entering the month of February and everyone knows what that means; campaigns and primaries. You are probably asking yourself, Oh Father are you really going to deal with politics? It is probably better if you didn't. Well my dear friends believe it or not we do have something to say about it and we should.
If you have ever attended an Orthodox Christian Divine Liturgy, you know that we pray for the President of the United States, not the Republican or Democratic President but THE PRESIDENT. We also pray for our leaders to govern in peace so that we might live lives in piety and holiness. So, if St. John Chrysostom can raise the issue we felt it was safe for us to do it as well.
