The Bible is the word of God, but the word of God was not written directly and personally by God. They were written by human beings who were inspired by God. The Bible is an authentic record of God's revelation of himself and of his will to mankind.

God “never bears enmity”, John Chrysostom observes; it is we who become His enemies; we are the ones who reject Him. The unrepentant man becomes demonized, because he has chosen to.

It is in Christ, as perfect Man, that man comes to the full realization of what it means to be in the image and likeness of God. For man’s freedom is an Icon, an image of the Divine Freedom itself

Why is suffering so indiscriminate? Why isn’t it meted out to only those who deserve it? Why do innocent suffer from actions and events they have no control over and often cannot foresee? For many people it is not the exclusivity of Christianity that poses the biggest problem, it is the presence of evil and suffering in the world.

To not believe in God requires faith that goes against reason. It requires illogical faith. When, however, we observe the design of creation and beauty of nature; the universal sense of morality, desire for perfection and consciousness of God; and the witness of personal testimony and power of the Bible, then we know that believing in God is supported by reason. Faith in God is logical faith.

Join us this fall at St. Demetrios both in person and on the Internet at www.myocn.net where Frs. Christopher and Spiro will examine some of the most fundamental questions and issues facing us today. There is a great gulf today between what is popular known as liberalism and conservatism. Each side demands that you not only disagree with but distain the other as (at best) crazy or (at worst) evil. This is particularly true when religion is the point at issue. When we meet most people today we usually know to stay away from two issues, faith and politics. But is that being true to the Gospel of Christ?
Which is it? Is skepticism or faith on the ascendancy in the world of today? The answer is Yes. The enemies are both right. Skepticism, fear and anger toward traditional religion are growing in power and influence. But at the same time, robust, orthodox belief in the traditional faiths is growing as well.
