Written by Frederica Mathewes-Green

"I love movies like this. But, sad to say, I didn't love this movie. I hoped I would, but one clunker after another kept accumulating-a hackneyed character here, a stupid line of dialogue there-until it was sounding like a sneaker in a dryer." |

Returning to Paradise: The spiritual reality behind blessing with Holy Water |
Written by Fr. John Parker
I had heard of ‘super-sized’ but never ‘super-charged’. The young man meant well, though he was making a serious request by means of some sort of slang. He had purchased a beautiful sterling silver baptismal cross and wanted to have it blessed. So he came into my study that day and asked, “Father, would you super-charge my cross for me?” |

New Year's reflection: Bad habits are hard to break |
Written by Fr. Demetrios Tonias
We are creatures of habit. From the time we get up in the morning to the moment we lay down to sleep, our lives are governed by our habits. Some habits are beneficial, others innocuous, still others detrimental. The beginning of a new year (and another political cycle) often brings with it a call for “change.” Whether or not the call for “change” is earnest or insincere, the results are, more often than not, the same—habits prevail. |

The Sanctification of All Things: Theophany & the Great Blessing of Water |
Written by Fr. Matthew Jackson
Today, with our rememberance of Theophany, we have an opportunity to reach out and touch the re-creation of the universe that took place with the Incarnation of Christ. In the Church we don’t simply celebrate an event, we “re-member” it, we participate again in the event, we re-constitute the events of salvation history in the services of the Church. |
