“Mama Says” Go to Church
written by John Kalinoglou, March 02, 2010
Fr. Chris, I agree completely with all that was contained in this Just Thinking. However, being of a generation older than you and your excellent speaker, I remember the beginning of the steep decline of a father in the home. We have paid for this deterioration in our society with our treasure and with the disruption of our families. One of the triggers was the Great Society program of the Johnson administration which institutionalized the subsidy of single parents of children and hired social workers to make sure there was no father (or man) living in the home. As long as the government is paying only when there is no man around to share in bringing up the children, the man/father is superfluous. So we told them that they no longer have any responsibility. The other trigger was the introduction of the liberal so called no-fault divorce which gave approval to divorce for any reason, and made it seem like the easy way out when things were not always going smoothly. In the case of divorce for the convenience of the parents, the children are paying the greatest price and it often colors their own future relationships. So when our tax dollars are paying for it, and our laws give their support by making it so easy, then society moves in the direction of least resistance. And, that is where we find ourselves today, with the many manifestations that were so aptly discussed. God bless us all. We need it.
Responding to your comments

Thank you John for your thoughts and comments. We always enjoy hearing from our listeners. I would also add to your comments that the Church has also stepped aside and lost its moral voice in responding to the ills or challenges of our times. On many fronts we have been silent and preferred the safe or politically correct way to the truth. The world should conform to the teachings of the faith and not the teachings to the world. Of course this is easier said than done but it must be done none the less. May God give us the wisdom to learn how to respond. Thanks again for your thoughts and by all means keep listening and tell your friends and relatives to do likewise.
