Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta partners with the Orthodox Christian Network to cover HDF Odyssey Journey to Greece Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The HDF (Hellenic Dance Festival) Odyssey of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta will launch its second trip to Greece with 38 participants including His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, The Executive Committee of the HDF and selected youth. This year’s journey begins on June 20th, when the group will gather at the Athens Venizelos Airport in Greece to begin 10 unforgettable days where they will travel, perform ethnic dances, and venerate the sacred relics of Saints of the faith. They will venerate the relics of the Holy St. Philothea, tour the mountains of Greece and the lovely cities of Agrinion, Corinth, Patras, Thebes, Volos, Chalkida and the ancient cities of Delphi and Sounion. The trip will conclude in Vouliagmeni with a dance presentation by the Dora Stratou Dancers. The HDF (Hellenic Dance Festival) Program and Odyssey Scholarship was a vision of His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexios. The trip is sponsored by the Hellenic Dance Festival program of the Metropolis of Atlanta along with the kind donations from the Orthodox faithful to the Friends of HDF fund. We encourage anyone to offer a donation to the Friends of HDF and sponsor a scholarship for the Odyssey Program as well as all the programs of the exciting world of HDF. The Hellenic dance program has several purposes: to develop an awareness and appreciation for our Hellenic and Orthodox culture and tradition, to inspire the young to understand the concept that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and to be led by the words of St. Paul in Romans 12:10 by pursuing excellence in all of God's gifts. Faithful in the United States and around the world are encouraged to visit the web site of the HDF at www.gohdf.org and the OCN at www.myocn.net to view daily progress of the trip, which includes photos and various interviews with the youth, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios and other hierarchs and clergy in Greece.
The Orthodox Christian Network is one of the official agencies of SCOBA, commissioned by our hierarchs to create a national, sustainable and effective media witness for Orthodox Christianity throughout North America. OCN produces the only nationally syndicated Orthodox Christian radio broadcast, as well as several other outreach programs, including DVDs and Internet-based media, in direct collaboration with sister SCOBA agencies (e.g. IOCC, OCMC, OCF, OCPM), as well as with various Orthodox Christian jurisdictions and pan-Orthodox, para-church organizations. Our goal is to engage the broader culture of North America with Orthodox Christianity's rich theological, spiritual and moral heritage, and to thereby strengthen the Orthodox Church's witness and contribution to the culture in which we live.
