St. John Chrysostom began four sermons with meditations on the phrase, "In the beginning was the word." Why did the the greatest preacher of Orthodoxy consider this line of scripture so important? Why did St. John begin his Gospel in this manner, rather than with tales of Christ on Earth as did the other Gospel writers?
