Dear Father and Sir:
I recognize that this woman's actions are extreme. The reality is that MD's are allowed to give women litters without any fear of prosecution. Technology has advanced and ethics regarding medical advancement have not kept up with the medical technology. Even without mandatory safe guards in place, any practitioner would know that this practice of implanting so many fertilized eggs is dangerous to the children, the woman involved and to the community which is financially strapped. But if they want to take her children away because of mere public funding then they better take away other children such as illegal aliens that milk the system and have anchor babies or children born of drug addicted mothers.
I think the person libel for the financial provisions needed to raise these children should be the physician who created this situation. If MD's were held legally responsible for these type of extreme actions, you'd see a dramatic drop in these scenarios.
When you comment on the breakdown of the American family, you made the assumtion that divorce is very bad for children and marriage is a panacea. Both are not accurate descriptions of either case. Children in marriages that are abusive suffer greatly just by seeing the abuse of the mother never mind being abused too. Divorce is the better option in this case. Divorce when parents use children as pawns to hurt the other ex spouse is also unfair and abusive. Society has both parents working, children sexualized at a young age, moral depravity is encouraged and the lack of superior role models have fallen by the wayside. Parents are derelect in their responsiblities probably because their parents did set a great example. So please recognize that I have only touched on a few of the social ramifications of the endangered American family. The problems are multi factoral and are things that cannot be legislated in this society.
